SGNote ICS Updates: S Note

Okay, this one update is a bit confusing at first since I mistaken it for just an upgrade of S Memo. Apparently, Samsung gives their Galaxy Note users easier access for creativity in business as well as fun.

As you can see, the first screen pretty much describe how S Note provides easy access with templates for your creativity. There are some help guides that you can read for introduction.

In the provided template folder, you will find 7 templates that you can use immediately. You can access it by click/touching the '+' sign on the top right corner of the S Note.

So let's see those templates closer.

The most useful template I use is Meeting Note template because I have too mmny meetings.

You can use 3 methods of input, which are very easy to use:
- typing on soft keyboard on screen
- write using S Pen and keep it as image note

- and the third method is handwriting recognition, basically this method SGNote will recognize your handwriting and convert it to typed letter.

So the handwritten word 'What' will be saved as the typed word 'What'.

Then there is Note and Idea Note. This one is basically an enhancement of S Memo. In Idea Note you will be able to use explore the shapes and formula recognition with the handwriting recognition features.

In this template you can make anything.

Then Magazine template. As you can see, this one is more on the web-based magazine format. You can add video and pictures along in here.

If you travel a lot, you will appreciate the Travel Note template. You can get more than just photos, you can add your own comments and experience.

For those who likea to cook, Recipe template is a handy one.

And you will appreciate to keep your diary in more colorful format with Diary template.

So S Note is an app where you can express your own creativity without limitation. The provided templates are only an exercise to give you an idea how far you can go.

Be creative and be expressive.

    1. As far as I know, you cannot delete the templates since it is part of the S Note app. They are hidden files. All you have to do is click on the '+' sign on top left corner and the templates will appear.

Could it be that you delete the Samples? Those I can send you by email.

If you really delete the templates, then you need to re-install the S Note by going back to Gingerbread using Kies Restore feature and reupgrade your SGNote. Or you can go to Samsung Service Center to reinstall it.

Sorry, since S Note is part of the ICS upgrade package, it is not yet availble in Samsung Apps Market, as far as I know.

    3. Hi,

I was also having the same problem, I thought I had deleted the template, but no I had just hidden them.

Go to snote, and then go to settings, and then "Note creation option." select "Show template list" and you are done.

If you are still using Samsung note, so am happy to help you.

  2. When i upgraded to ics, script handwriting is not recognized anymore. Im not sure if this is because of the upgrade or just the settibgs. I have a friend who hasn't upgraded her phone yet and her phobe can still recognize script handwriting. Pls help

  3. Dear Blessing, ICS upgrade didn't affect the handwriting recognition modules directly. You can find the upgrade of handwriting recognition app from Samsung in Play Store and Samsung Apps Store where you can download them directly. My question is what language are you using?

  4. Any idea if you could make a custom template or at least a background?

  5. Hi Anonymous, unfortunately Samsung did not equip custom template creation tool to S Note. God knows I tried. It is fixed on 7 provided templates.
However, changing background is avaiable in all templates with limited options provided by Samsung. When you open a new document, press menu and you will find Change Background option.

  6. Thanks Anton, that is frustrating!
I had an idea to make a background that is a grid of mm at 1:1, so you could trace around small objects on the screen. I guess I will use the IdeaNote background and work out the scale of the grid on that.
Great blog btw, I love this phone too!

  8. Hello. ...In the meeting template I can'+ type in the Agenda box...how to do that?

    1. Hi, you are right. In Agenda box, we cannot type anything. However, you can write on it using SPen.

I think this Meeting Template was made for quick access so it will enable you to make quick note on an on going meeting. I don't think typing is generally faster than writing.

  9. Hi Anton, thanks for making this blog.

I have a question on the Magazine template, when you first use it there are two placeholders for pictures and one for video. The picture ones are really good because when you click on them to add a picture they give you the option to crop the photo. The normal picture insert function doesn't seem to do this. What I'd like to do is add extra placeholders, but I can find a way to do this. Can you help?

    1. Dear Chris,

I must apologize but you cannot change the template in SNote, I'm not sure for SGNote2 or SGNote 10.1, but certainly not in SGNote. So it is not possible to add a placeholder, but I don't see that as a hindrance since manual insertion is available.

Adding more pictures manually in SGNote SNote (the icon with picture of mountain and plus on right top corner, next to microphone icon) also enables you to crop it during the selection process, notice that the picture has orange frame, all you have to do is move the orange frame accordingly to the size you want. When you have selected the photo and the photo appeared in SNote, you can rotate, adjust its size, and also move it backwards/forwards. The result is pretty much similar to the placeholders.

The only thing you cannot do manually is adding additional video.

Also you can insert SMemo that you have made previously into SNote, so you might have captured a picture from the web, put some creativity into it using SMemo, then transfer it to SNote.

I hope that's answer your question.
